FINDING MY
IDENTITY
Design is a purpose or idea that’s behind an action
or object. Design is art. It’s a form of self expression
where we individually collect personal experiences
and principals to shape our ideations.
Growing up, from gathering my own collective
experiences, I found my interests and design direction
to touch people personally: to bring relationships
where people from different demographics can unite
and share the same experiences and views; designs that
bring awareness and willing to break boundaries to
make a point; to deconstruct standard ideas to show
that it’s not the only answer and way of living; designs
that at least attempt to make a difference
and try to impact society.
To brand, is to give a philosophy an identity. It’s a mark
expressed graphically through a personal signature. Graffiti
artists brand themselves through their signified calligraphy,
art, and philosophy. Graphics is what visually distinguishes
the difference between ideologies like politics, products,
and artists.
After trying to adjust with several existing typefaces for
my personal logo, I have come to figure out how it just
wasn’t me. I followed my gut and stuck with my signature
and wrote my manifesto
"Mikey Nitro. starting with a childhood name that keeps
me content until today and ending with a spunk that ignites
my personality. Every time I write it, every gesture felt so
right. It has my strongest self expression and represents my
freedom. It’s written with no fear, no regrets, just all heart
and soul with a passion roots deep, that strives to be written
and strives to be known. It’s everything I am, everything I
believe in. It’s a gesture purely from the soul. I am Mikey Nitro."
